Part 4: Method.
Three respirometers will be constructed. One will contain dry peas, one will contain germinating peas,
and one will contain glass beads. KOH will be used to chemically react with any carbon dioxide that
is produced from respiration in the respirometers. The respirometers will be submerges in room
temperature and 10 degree temperature. As oxygen is consumed in the respirometers, the gas
pressure decreases inside the respirometer, and water will enter the pipette. mL readings on the
pipette will give quantitative data which can be used to graph and calculate respiration rate in the
different environments.
Hypotheses:
a. If two respirometers are constructed that contain both nongerminating and germinating seeds at
the same temperature, then ______________________________________________________
b. If germinating seeds are placed in respirometers at both 10 degree temperature and room
temperature, then _____________________________________________________________

The topic of cellular respiration involves the metabolism of glucose, including
the reduction of molecular oxygen to produce water. Can you explain
examples of energy transfer throughout this whole process???
